Street children are the ones who adopt the street as their home. Most of them have run away from abusive parents, unhappy homes or had to face severe hunger due to poverty. On the street they are faced with the hard realities of life, forced to do odd jobs, beg and eat left over food. The phenomenon of street children is recognized as a social problem affecting major cities in most of the developing countries. The Bombay YMCA Street Children Programme has provided its services to the‘rootless and roofless’ children in Mumbai, through its Night Shelter, and Day time activities.
