• To grapple with the situation of the street children in Bombay, the Bombay YMCA launched a programme for the upliftment of the street children. Prof. Anant Namjoshi, Chairman of the YMCA-NSCC India joint social service project, inaugurated the project on April 20, 1991 at the Khar Danda Centre.
  • As an initial step, 250 such street children were selected and a programme covering individual and group counseling, sharing experiences of street life, identifying problems, providing identity cards, motivating savings, liason with police and repatriation to families if necessary, were undertaken.
  • YMCA Street children programme came to be registered with the UNICEF sponsored CCVC that gave YMCA access to the expertise and information needed to run this programme.
